Case study: Cross River Rail

Transport South East Queensland (West) South East Queensland (South) South East Queensland (North)

South East Queensland’s (SEQ) population is rising, putting the transport network under pressure. While more than 80% of population growth is occurring outside the Brisbane local government area, in the same time period 45% of new South East Queensland jobs will be inside the Brisbane metropolitan area.

Driven by population and employment growth in the region, demand for passenger rail services is forecast to almost triple by 2036. This means getting people to and from Brisbane will be of critical importance.

The Cross River Rail project will transform the way people travel across South East Queensland by integrating with new roads and bus services creating a turn-up-and-go public transport system.
