The Department of Environment and Science is proposing to revoke six forest reserves in order to dedicate them as protected area under the Nature Conservation Act 1992.

Barron Gorge Forest Reserve

Mareeba Shire

Revoke the entirety of the forest reserve and dedicate the area as:

  • part   of the existing Barron Gorge National Park. Barron Gorge Forest Reserve is described as lot 1 on AP19290, containing an area of about 176.34 hectares, about 18 kilometres north-west of Cairns.

Dryander Forest Reserve

Whitsunday Regional

Revoke the entirety of the forest reserve and dedicate the area as:

  • part of the existing Dryander National Park. Dryander Forest Reserve is   described as lot 5 on AP19346, containing an area of about 25.92 hectares, about 15 kilometres north of Proserpine.

Kelvin Forest Reserve

Mackay Regional

Revoke the entirety of the forest reserve and dedicate the area as:

  • part of the existing Kelvin National Park. Kelvin Forest Reserve is   described as lot 4 on AP19344, containing an area of about 1191 hectares,   about 49 kilometres south of Mackay.

Kuranda Forest Reserve

Mareeba Shire

Cairns Regional

Revoke the entirety of the forest reserve and dedicate the area as:

  • part of the existing Kuranda National Park. Kuranda Forest Reserve is   described as lots 9, 11, 16 and 21 on AP19345, containing a total area of   about 55.74 hectares, about 38 kilometres north-west of Cairns.

Macalister Range Forest Reserve

Douglas Shire

Revoke the entirety of the forest reserve and dedicate the area as:

  • part of the existing Macalister Range National Park. Macalister Range Forest Reserve is described as lots 12 to 15 on AP19345, containing a total area   of about 47.75 hectares, about 38 kilometres north-west of Cairns.

Yabba Forest Reserve 2

Somerset Regional

Revoke the entirety of the forest reserve and dedicate the area as:

  • part of the existing Wrattens National Park. Yabba Forest Reserve 2 is described as lot 1 on AP19204, containing an area of about 4 hectares, about 35 kilometres west of Gympie.

Any entity may comment about the proposal to the chief executive of the Department of Environment and Science, in writing and directed to tenureservices@des.qld.gov.au or Tenure Services, PO Box 15187, City East, QLD, 4002.

Comments received between 12 December 2023 and 16 January 2024  will be considered by the department.

Amendments to the QPWS estate under the Nature Conservation (Forest Reserves) Regulation 2000 and the Nature Conservation (Protected Areas) Regulation 1994 are administered by the Department of Environment and Science.
