Update: Crocodile located, Hinchinbrook Island

Issued: 13 Feb 2021

Wildlife officers have located a crocodile that may have been involved in the disappearance of a man missing off Hinchinbrook Island.

A four-metre crocodile was located this afternoon near where the missing man’s vessel was found.

Officers have humanely euthanised the animal and it has been transported back to the mainland.

A necropsy will be conducted in due course.

This comes after human remains were discovered overnight.

Officers are continuing to assist the Queensland Police Service with its investigation.

The Department of Environment and Science has deployed a number of resources including four vessels, 15 wildlife officers, drones, traps and other equipment used to capture a crocodile.

We would like to convey our deepest condolences to the family, and our thoughts are with them during this difficult time.

We would like to remind everyone to be Crocwise in croc country and to report any sightings immediately through the QWildlife app.
