Park Ridge fire

Issued: 19 Mar 2021

The Department of Environment and Science (DES) is investigating the owners of a Park Ridge industrial shed for environmental offences following a fire that broke out early this morning.

The shed contained a large number of tyres and chemical drums, which caught alight.

DES officers are onsite and will work with Queensland Fire and Emergency Service to determine the impact of the fire to the environment.

The operator does not have an Environmental Authority (EA) from DES to store tyres at this site.

It is a criminal offence to stockpile tyres without an EA. The maximum penalty for stockpiling tyres illegally is $600,525 for an individual or $3,262,500 for a company.

DES is working to prevent the release of contaminants to nearby waterways.
