Last chance to get your tickets to turtle-y amazing show
Issued: 10 Feb 2022
Tickets to the hottest show in town are still available but visitors to the Bundaberg region are urged to get in quick to avoid missing out on the most turtle-y amazing experience.
Mon Repos Ranger in Charge Nikki Murnane said while tickets for the nightly Mon Repos Turtle Encounter had sold out on the weekends, there were still spots available on weeknights right up until the end of the turtle nesting season.
“The Mon Repos Turtle Encounter is the only ranger-guided turtle encounter on Australia’s east coast and is the most amazing way to see these impressive animals up close,” Ranger Nikki said.
“The tours are enormously popular with thousands of visitors taking part in the nightly tours every year.
“Already this season more than 11,000 people have witnessed the wonder of seeing a turtle make her way up the beach to lay her eggs, or seen hundreds of tiny hatchlings emerge from their nests for the first time.
“Tours run seven-nights-a-week during turtle season, which runs until late March, so time is quickly running out to experience one of Queensland’s best nature-based tourism attractions for the year.
“Bookings are essential, but if you are willing to stay up late on a school night there are still opportunities to see the turtles this year.”
Bookings can be made online through Bundaberg Region Tourism.
Proof of COVID-19 vaccination is required for entry to the Mon Repos Turtle Centre and for the nightly turtle encounter.
Mon Repos is home to the largest population of nesting marine loggerhead turtles in the South Pacific and is crucial for the survival of the endangered species.
Ranger Nikki said so far this season 290 loggerhead, 9 flatback and 5 green turtles had nested at Mon Repos.
“The Mon Repos Turtle Centre and nightly encounters allow rangers and volunteers to educate visitors about the importance of need to conserve these incredible animals and how we can all play a part in ensuring the survival of the species,” she said.
