Changes to South East Queensland National Parks, state forests and visitor centres during COVID lockdown

Issued: 2 Aug 2021

Anyone planning on visiting National Parks, state forests, and Queensland Parks and Wildlife (QPWS) visitor centres in south east Queensland should monitor our Park Alerts page following the latest COVID lockdown directive.

South east Queensland is affected which includes Brisbane, Ipswich, Logan, Moreton Bay, Redlands, Sunshine Coast, Noosa, Somerset, Lockyer Valley, Scenic Rim and the Gold Coast.

National Parks and forests will remain accessible for people who live nearby for exercise, however, everyone must follow the Chief Health Officer’s directions.

Camping is not a valid reason for leaving home in the lockdown areas so bookings within the lockdown areas will need to be cancelled or postponed via the  Online Booking System.

For those camping on Minjerribah (North Stradbroke Island) or Mulgumpin (Moreton Island) you should manage your booking via Minjerribah Camping and Mulgumpin Camping.

Existing campers are able to continue their stay to minimise travel in the region or you can return to your home, but you must follow the same lockdown rules when you return home, regardless of where your destination is.

DES will process refund requests as quickly as possible.

The lockdown will also mean David Fleay Wildlife Park, Walkabout Creek Wildlife Centre, Daisy Hill Koala Centre, and all QPWS service counters will be closed until 4pm Sunday August 8, 2021.

The changes came into effect from 4pm Saturday July 31, 2021, and reflects advice from Queensland’s Chief Health Officer to ensure the health and safety of staff, visitors and the wider Queensland community.

People who have bookings and can’t use them will be able to apply for a refund.
