Changes to National Parks during three-day lockdown

Issued: 29 Jun 2021

Anyone planning on visiting National Parks and state forests in the south east Queensland and Townsville regions should monitor our Park Alerts page following the latest COVID three-day lockdown directive.

South east Queensland and Townsville are affected which includes Townsville, Palm Island, Magnetic Island, Brisbane, Ipswich, Logan City, Moreton Bay, Redlands, Sunshine Coast, Noosa, Somerset, Lockyer Valley, Scenic Rim and the Gold Coast.

National Parks and forests will remain accessible for people who live nearby for exercise, however, everyone should follow the Chief Health Officer’s directions.

Camping bookings within the lockdown areas with start dates between 6pm Tuesday June 29, 2021 and 6pm Friday July 2, 2021 will need to be cancelled or postponed via the  Online Booking System.

For those camping on Minjerribah (North Stradbroke Island) or Mulgumpin (Moreton Island) you should manage your booking via Minjerribah Camping and Mulgumpin Camping.

Existing campers are able to continue their stay to minimise travel in the region or you can return to your home, but you must follow the same lockdown rules when you return home, regardless of where your destination is.

DES will process refund requests as quickly as possible.

The lockdown will also mean David Fleay Wildlife Park, Walkabout Creek Wildlife Centre and Daisy Hill Koala Centre will be closed until Saturday.

The changes will come into effect from 6pm tonight and reflects advice from Queensland’s Chief Health Officer to ensure the health and safety of staff, visitors and the wider Queensland community.

People who have bookings and can’t use them will be able to apply for a refund.
