Appeal for assistance with dumping investigation

The department is appealing for public assistance following the discovery of dumped waste in the Townsville Port Access Reserve.

On Saturday July 17, 2021, a departmental officer came across the rubbish and alerted the Litter and Illegal Dumping Compliance Operations team.

Our staff have released photos as part of the investigation which show the dumped waste included general household items plus roofing material.

The dumped waste has had an impact on marine plants in the vicinity including salt couch and mangroves.

The department is encouraging anyone who saw or heard any suspicious activity in the area over the weekend to call the departments litter and illegal dumping team on (07) 3330 5041.

As the state’s environmental regulator, DES will investigate and take enforcement action where offenders are able to be identified.

People are urged to report any littering or illegal dumping incidents online at  Report it.

As investigations are continuing, there is no further information available at this time.
