Rangers appeal for safe behaviour at Crows Nest National Park

Issued: 16 Oct 2020

Queensland Parks and Wildlife Service (QPWS) is urging visitors to Crows Nest National Park, north of Toowoomba, to stay safe this summer by steering clear of the waterhole below the falls.

Acting Regional Director Brett Roberts said the waterhole below Crows Nest Falls is closed to public access due to the risk posed by unstable rock formations around the bottom of the waterfall.

“In recent years a number of rock falls have occurred around the waterhole and people have been seriously injured after falling from the cliff face,” Mr Roberts said.

“Public safety is our number one priority. As the weather heats up, we are reminding visitors to the park to obey all signage by staying out of the waterhole.

“Information about the restricted access area has been placed at the start of the main walking track to the falls and rangers regularly patrol the area.

“Visitors can safely swim at a number of other spots within the national park including Bottlebrush Pool.

“Fines of up to $400 can be issued to anyone entering a restricted access area.”

Mr Roberts said the forest community and granite landscape impacted by drought and wildfires in November 2019 continued to slowly recover.

“The Crow Nest Falls Lookout, walking tracks and popular visitor sites remain open,” Mr Roberts said.
