Crocodile death investigation, Innisfail

DES staff are investigating the suspicious death of a large crocodile in the Innisfail area last month.
On Sunday 29 April 2018, DES wildlife officers recovered the carcass of a 4.3 metre estuarine crocodile from the banks of the South Johnstone River at a farm at Wangan, south of Innisfail.
The animal appeared to have been shot.
In Queensland the illegal taking of a crocodile carries a maximum penalty of $28,383.
DES is currently investigating this incident and therefore no further details can be provided at this time.

Community members are reminded that crocodiles are a threatened species and should not be approached or interfered with.
