Case study: Infarm, Goondiwindi
Infarm is an agricultural artificial intelligence platform involving weed identification technology that is designed to reduce herbicide input on farm.
The technology uses drones to capture high-definition images, which are analysed through a weed-identifying algorithm that pinpoints the exact location of the weeds. This allows the tractor’s spray nozzles to control the precise herbicide application.
This drone-to-tractor technology is enabling large farms in south west Queensland to achieve savings of up to 95% in herbicide use on farm, increasing profitability and sustainability.
Through the Queensland Government Ignite Ideas Fund and Microsoft grants, Infarm has been able to increase their drone capability to over 500 hectares per day and improve software development to target highly resistant weeds.
Infarm has received number of awards including the AgForce Innovation Award and the Queensland Community Achievement Primer Super Agricultural Innovation Award.
