Case study: Grazing and regenerative agriculture, Goondicum Station, Central Queensland

Land and agriculture Central Queensland

In the 1950s, the Campbell family saw the opportunity to create an environmentally sustainable beef business on their farm. Decades on the land had shown the Campbell’s that prevailing environmental attitudes were leading to a decline in habitat and biodiversity. Their approach involved returning the land to native forest as a sustainable and regenerative business, a carbon farming method which was ahead of its time and led to a better beef business.

Today, the owners are using carbon regenerative farming methods to produce high quality, hormone-free cattle for an international market, and have a contract with the Queensland Government to deliver a Land Restoration Fund carbon projects with benefits for the environment, threatened species, and the Great Barrier Reef.
