Case study: Decarbonisation of the Great Barrier Reef Island Program
The Queensland Government’s Decarbonisation of the Great Barrier Reef Islands program supports businesses and communities of the Great Barrier Reef islands to transition to a low carbon future.
The first phase of the program was led by Energetics in partnership with EarthCheck. It involved 25 resorts, across 20 islands, to reduce carbon emissions and increase resilience to the impacts of climate change.
Low emission solutions were identified for each resort including solar and battery combinations, biodiesel and biogas, solar hot water, electric vehicles, hybrid ferries, as well as wind and tidal turbines.
