Case study: Darling Downs Hospital and Health Service solar installation

Energy Health Darling Downs South West

As part of the Darling Downs Hospital and Health Service renewable energy project, the annual renewable energy (solar photovoltaic) generation and savings for the Miles and Tara hospitals are estimated to be:

  • 254 MWh (megawatt hours) solar generation
  • 196 tonnes CO2 emissions saved (equivalent trees planted = 9,032)
  • $37,236 energy and demand savings.

Miles Hospital Solar Project

A 100kw solar system was installed at Miles Hospital in July 2021. In the first two months, the following results were achieved:

  • 12.49 MWh solar generation
  • 4.897 tonnes CO2 emissions saved (equivalent trees planted = 146)
  • $1,458 energy savings
  • $606 demand savings.

Tara Hospital Solar Project

A 30kw solar system was installed at the Tara Hospital in July 2021. In the first two months, the following results were achieved:

  • 4.41 MWh solar generation
  • 1.727 tonnes CO2 emissions saved (equivalent trees planted = 51)
  • $514 energy savings
  • $154 demand savings.

Based on these initial results, both hospitals are positioned to exceed the calculated annual solar generation and savings.
