Case study: Daintree Ecolodge

Tourism Far North Queensland

The Daintree Ecolodge have increased their sustainability by installing a solar PV system and LED lighting, purchasing energy-efficient appliances and refrigeration units, and swapping electric hot water systems for more efficient gas alternatives.

Rainwater tanks and a biocycle wastewater treatment system reclaims water for reuse for irrigation and other general watering needs.

Supported with advice provided through the Business Chamber Queensland's ecoBiz program, the Ecolodge now recycles glass and aluminium, discontinued the use of single-use plastic products at their resort and composts food scraps. In addition, they source all products from local suppliers, many of which are small businesses.
