Case study: Arana Bridge Club ecoBiz

Community South East Queensland (North)

Arana Bridge Club is a place for bridge enthusiasts to learn and play. Located in the Brisbane suburb of Ferny Grove, the club has around 300 members. It is a club for all age groups and offers supervised play for beginners. Arana Bridge Club joined the ecoBiz program in 2020.

Key initiatives to reduce energy use

The club has reduced emissions and energy use by:

  • installing a 20 kilowatt-hour rooftop solar photovoltaic system
  • using blinds on all windows to reduce the amount of heat entering the clubhouse
  • installing a ducted heating and ventilation air conditioning (HVAC) system. Heating, ventilation and air conditioning is operated at 24 degrees Celsius and the club mostly makes use of natural ventilation before turning on the HVAC to reduce energy consumption. Energy efficiency is increased as the HVAC is serviced annually and filters are regularly cleaned.
  • turning off all lighting and the HVAC system outside card playing hours.
