Case study: Great Barrier Reef Island Resorts Rejuvenation Program - Orpheus Island Lodge

Tourism North Queensland

As part of the Queensland Government’s Great Barrier Reef Island Resorts Rejuvenation ProgramOrpheus Island Lodge installed 810 solar panels and now runs exclusively on solar power. This has reduced emissions and diesel fuel usage by 600 litres per day. In addition, less noise is created which provides guests with a quieter experience.

The lodge’s restaurant kitchen uses fruit and vegetables that are grown on-site, while guests are supplied with reusable products to reduce plastic waste and encouraged to take part in beach clean-ups.
