Case study: Farm diversification in the Goondiwindi Region
Goondiwindi farmers are facing significant financial, environmental and market pressures on their farms and business.
In response to these pressures, to access new markets and improve their sustainability, local farms have diversified into new crops, free-range pork, organic dairy and olive oil production. These include:
- the Human Bean Co growing and processing faba beans into healthy snacks at a local facility. There is strong focus on sustainable farming to ensure a resilient and sustainable ecosystem
- the Gooralie Free-Range Pork piggery has reduced its environmental footprint, as a result of its power being supplied through a solar system and utilising all the compost from the piggery at the farm.
